MacNav is a technical partnership between ESRI Canada, the Michael DeGroote School of Business and the Faculty of Humanities that is an extension of McMaster’s Smart Campus initiative. We use ESRI’s flagship product, ArcGIS, to provide an outdoor and indoor navigation experience to the McMaster community. With hundreds of campus destinations indexed on the system, it is now easier than ever to find your way from anywhere on McMaster’s campus to where you need to go next.
It is important to note, however, that this is only the first phase of the project. As such, this pilot features only limited indoor navigation functionality. The so-called ‘blue dot navigation experience’ is currently only available indoors in the basement of the Arts Quad, PGCLL (full building), TSH (full building), DSB (full building) and CNH (1st floor only). While indoor navigation remains under development, ALL outdoor navigation destinations at McMaster’s main campus are fully functional.
As with most systems that are in the ‘pilot stage’, we need your help to make the system even better! Please let us know if you find any unusual or inaccurate routes in your travels around campus. And remember, as you navigate your way around, to keep an eye on where you are walking. Your safety and the safety of others is always of paramount concern!
